The Right & Wrong of UX Design

Updated: Jul 25, 2018

Is there a ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ way of performing a particular UX method/technique?

Questions:

  • Is there only one way to create a prototype?

  • Is there only one way to conduct research?

  • Is there only one way to synthesise research?

  • Is there only one way to test a concept?

You can see where I’m going with this...

The answer is, no.

It was alarming for me to see during a research project I was working on, where the Lead Designer said “This is how we do it here” as they began dismantling the affinity map/diagram I had already completed (alone!). Their tone suggested my approach was ‘wrong’.

My experience with their approach to recruiting test participants & concept testing was similar, so I just followed this person’s ‘lead’.

Remember, the Design toolkit & process is invaluable.

It is also flexible, something that most humans are sadly, not.
