New to UX? Realities of the Industry
How do new UX Designers adjust (or react) to the realities of the industry?
They take on a UX course, are taught the process, practice it & develop a portfolio. Once they enter the industry, they realise some organisations don’t respect or follow the process at all.
“There’s no research with this project. The client already knows what they want.” (Dangerous statement in itself) “If you need to test, just walk around the office & grab a few people.” (Because yes, people in the office clearly represent our users, which happen to be single parents... Again, dangerous statement) Many new UX Designers confess to me they doubt their decision to even transition to UX. They fall in love with the discipline only to find their first UX job does not match their expectations.
Message to all: Respect the process!
