Happy Mothers Day, to all past & present. Which lessons have stuck with us?
The lessons I learned from my Mother have molded me into the person I am today. I'd like to share a few of them with you.
1. Always be respectful
She said:
"The hardest part is biting your tongue. But, when you do speak up & defend yourself, you can still be respectful. Never burn bridges because of pride."
2. Always open the door for a lady
She said:
"It shows you pay attention, put others first & you don't need to be the first person in or out of a room."
3. Don't swear
She said:
"You don't need to amplify your message by using curse words."
She added:
"Not swearing is part of human hygiene, like having clean finger nails & clean shoes."
4. Smile
She believed smiling was a strong positive sign but a trait people could take advantage as they might see you as being too friendly & not worthy of respect.
She asked:
"Why do you think teachers don't smile much at their students?"
Smile, but don't be a joker.
5. Invest in good shoes
She said:
"People always notice your shoes. You can tell a lot about someone by the shoes they wear. Keep them clean. It shows that you watch your step."
I love shoes!
