A very wise person once told me:
"Think of yourself as a business or a company, and the people in your life are managers in that company. If a manager is not pulling their weight or dragging the company down, they are let go. So, you should also evaluate people in your life, regardless of their title or position, be it family members, friends, associates etc. & let go the ones who are not lifting you up or providing value to your life."
This person unfortunately passed away in his late 40s & had practiced what he preached. He was a content soul, positive & rational in his thinking. He had few friends whom he kept in touch with & approached his family in the same way. He had his critics of course.
Even in his last days, he had the same mentality. Happy with how he lived his life & how he treated others & more importantly, how he allowed others to treat him.
"You're not a door mat John. Don't let people walk all over you, ever."
...was one of the last things he said to me.
